What is the Earth Team? What’s in it for you?
The Earth Team is the volunteer component of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the U.S. Government’s lead agency for voluntary conservation of natural resources on private lands.
How can you make a difference?
When you sign on as an Earth Team volunteer, you are on your way to becoming a caretaker of natural resources in your community. You could find yourself helping farmers, ranchers, and other landowners prevent wind and water erosion, conserve and improve water, enhance wildlife habitat, or reduce flooding. You may even help people of all ages learn about the environment and conservation through educational activities.
Who can volunteer?
You must be 14 years of age or older and interested in conserving natural resources. You can work part-time or full-time, evenings or weekends, and outdoors or in a local NRCS office.
How do you sign up?
Becoming an Earth Team member is easy! Stop in at your local NRCS office. The NRCS office in Polk County is located at 1513 N. Ankeny Blvd., Suite 3, Ankeny, IA. Phone 515-964-1883 ext. 3, to set up an appointment to meet with the local District Conservationist and find out how you can make a difference.
